The legacy of Wizja – her first daughter Wizjera

Wizjera1992
Wizjera (Tallin-Wizja/El Paso) at Michalów in 1992

After 5 colts the great Wizja finally had a daughter in 1988, the chestnut Wizjera. She was by the Russian stallion Tallin (Nabeg-Talantlivaia/Aswan). He was used at Tersk in 1984-1985 siring 13 foals before he arrived in Poland for an exchange with the Probat-son Gwizd. Tallin was a representative of the Bairactar sire line and his greatest achievement was his son Wojslaw (out of Wilejka – the fullsister to Wizja). He matched very well with the Szweykowska-line through Warmia producing Wilnianka (out of Wilejka) – 1989 Polish National Junior Reserve Champion Mare, Warsowia (out of Wendeta/Palas) – the dam of Polish Chief sire Wachlarz (by Arbil), Warsowia was sold to Lenita Perroy where she has been a very valued broodmare. Tallin is also the sire of Dzida (out of Debica/Elf) – 1988 Polish National Junior Reserve Champion Mare. Continue reading “The legacy of Wizja – her first daughter Wizjera”

Happy Birthday Ganges 20 years!

Ganges77web

Some horses will make an impression on you that will last a lifetime and for me that horse is Ganges. For me he is an example of the perfect stallion – he won at the Racetrack, he won in performance and he won in the showring. He has the greatest disposition and he is strong and correct. All those features are great, but even greater is that his offspring inherit those features, over and over and over again. And for me, THAT is the proof of a great stallion, a stallion that will matter for the breed and that will be remembered not only by people like myself that love them for who they are, but also by breeders in the future that will value them for what they have passed on and for bringing the breed forward. And Ganges is definitely one of those. 20 years ago, on the 6th of April 1994, this wonderful stallion was born at Michalów stud in Poland and today we celebrate his 20th Birthday. Happy Birthday beautiful boy! Continue reading “Happy Birthday Ganges 20 years!”

Ararat (Palas x Arra/Bandos) – 29 years old!

Ararat in 2011

One of my favorite mares in the 1980´s was the amazing Arra (Bandos x Arba/Comet), Triple Crown winner (Derby, Oaks and Criteriewinner) as well as 1983 European Champion Mare and 1986 Polish National Champion Mare, a fleabitten mare with huge black eyes, a beautiful head with a great neck and lot of charisma – a classical Polish mare that showed that a beautiful horse also could do well in racing/performance. Happy Birthday Pianissima!

Pianissima1931

I remember after the 2004 Polish National Show (which was when the WAHO-conference was held in Poland), everyone talked about the bay filly that was so spectacular and so perfect that no one ever seen anyone like that. Her name was… Pianissima. Of course she was named Polish National Junior Champion and Best in Show and everyone that saw her knew that they just witnessed the beginning of an impressive career. Estarda (Gadir x Estancja/Palas) – the fairytale horse

Estarda1990

There are some horses that make a huge impression on you and they will always be with you. Emandoria, Pianissima, Etruria, Emigrantka and Algeria are some of the mares I have met that blew me away. All of those amazing mares have also impressed lots of other people around the world and they are all with us through their offspring and their descendants. But not all the amazing horses have the chance to show the world what they are able to do and one of those truly spectacular mares was born at Michalów State Stud in 1990… This grey filly was something really special with a head so extreme that I never had seen anything like it before. It is a hot Swedish summer day in 1989 at the Swedish National Show and we are at Elmia in Jönköping. Everyone is waiting for the first stallion class to begin and 22 stallions aged 4-7 years old are eager to be shown. The first stallion entering the ring is full of confidence and with an attitude that shout – Here comes the King! And indeed he did – Casino – shown by Michael Byatt.
